The Philadelphia district will add two Muslim holidays to its school calendar.
The two holidays are Eid al-Fitr, celebrated after the monthlong observance of Ramadan, and Eid al-Adha, celebrated at the conclusion of the annual Hajj pilgrimage. This year, Eid al-Fitr will fall in July, and Eid al-Adha will take place in September.
A handful of smaller districts have already added Muslim holidays to the academic calendar, and New York City last year became the first major city to do so.
