Few Montana Schools Allow Staff to Carry Guns
Montana state law allows school boards to let any adult staff member carry a gun in schools. But fewer than 1 percent of schools in a state with a high number of gun owners actually do so.
Three districts—Belfry, Custer, and Lima— have staff members who actively carry guns, The Billings Gazette reported last week after requesting records from each of the state's districts. Another district allowed a former teacher to carry a gun, while two others have current authorizations for a staff member to carry a gun, but they don't currently carry firearms.
At least 12 other states allow guns to be carried in K-12 schools.
