Six schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District have voted to join a school improvement effort spearheaded by Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa.
In Dec. 11 voting at the campuses, teachers and parents approved plans for two high schools and four middle schools to join the Partnership for LA Schools. Ballots were still being counted at a third high school.
The mayor claimed victory in the voting, even as the results at some schools were being disputed last week.
The partnership is a nonprofit organization focused on improving the 708,000-student district’s lowest-performing schools. It will work alongside the district’s innovation division to support and manage clusters of schools, starting next school year.
