A report by the Center for American Progress evaluates the impact of a pilot program in five school districts in Massachusetts to lengthen the school day and year as a way to improve student achievement.

The case study by the Washington-based policy group seeks to guide states and policymakers in developing similar initiatives, and offers specific recommendations for doing so, such as involving teachers and unions in the initial planning.

“The Massachusetts Expanding Learning Time to Support Student Success Initiative” is available from the Center for American Progress.
