Carey Wright was confirmed last week as Mississippi’s superintendent of education.
A former school administrator in the District of Columbia and Maryland, Ms. Wright was named to lead the Mississippi education department in November. Conservatives opposed the nomination, citing her advocacy of the common-core standards and publicly funded prekindergarten, among other issues.
