The Stupski Foundation, a Mill Valley, Calif., group that provides ongoing financial and technical support to district leaders engaged in systemic change, has included the Baltimore public schools in its efforts.
In announcing the multiyear partnership late last month, foundation officials told the Baltimore press that it will bring at least $10 million worth of assistance to the 87,000-student district. Other systems already in the foundation’s District Alliance initiative include the Jackson, Miss., public schools and the New Haven, Conn., district.
Chaired by Larry Stupski, a former executive at the Charles Schwab investment company who also has been an active leader in California’s school improvement efforts, the foundation only invites districts to join its alliance after an extensive review meant to assess their ability to achieve sustained improvement.
