To the Editor:
Sister Carol Cimino, the superintendent of schools for the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo, N.Y., rightly notes in a letter to the editor: “The purpose and underlying philosophy of Catholic schools is the transmission of Catholic doctrine and values throughout the day, in the curricular and extracurricular life of students “Catholic Schools Cannot ‘Convert’ to Charter School Status.”
A similar generalization would apply to most other religion-related (Protestant, Jewish, Islamic) private schools, and that is the main reason why taxpayers should not be compelled to support such schools through vouchers or tax credits. Most Americans agree, as evidenced by a review my organization conducted of 27 referendums and most opinion polls between 1966 and 2012.
