“The Effect of Charter Schools on Traditional Public School Students in Texas: Are Children Who Stay Behind Left Behind?” is posted by the National Center for the Study of Privatization in Education.
The emergence of charters schools can have “positive and significant” effects on students’ reading and math scores in nearby regular public schools, concludes a study by researchers at the RAND Corp., the University of Tennessee, and Texas A&M University.
The researchers arrived at their conclusions after examining eight years of test-score data on individual students in Texas. They investigated the effect of charters on regular schools by looking for changes in student achievement following the emergence of charter schools in the state.
