A group that supports charter schools says the number of weapons confiscated in the New York City school system rose sharply last year.
The report this month by Families For Excellent Schools says the biggest increase in weapons seized was in the number of Tasers and stun guns, from four in the 2013-14 school year to 62 in 2014-15. Its data are based on police records that the group says it obtained through a freedom-of-information request.
A spokeswoman for the city’s education department said there is “zero tolerance for any weapons in schools.”
