Kevin Huffman, a former Teach For America executive vice president for public affairs, was named commissioner of education in Tennessee last week. Mr. Huffman, a 1992 TFA corps member who taught bilingual 1st and 2nd grades in Houston, is the first TFA graduate to become a state schools chief. He will help implement Tennessee’s $500 million winning Race to the Top bid, including its new teacher-evaluation system.
