Why Do High School Seniors Drink? Implications for a Targeted Approach to Intervention
Three-fourths of high school seniors have experimented with alcohol, says a report by the Fairfax, Va.-based Society for Prevention Research, a nonprofit organization that promotes science-based prevention programs through research.
The report used nationally representative survey data gathered from 1,877 seniors from the class of 2004 in its “Monitoring the Future” report, an annual survey of high school students conducted by the Institute for Social Research, which is based at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. It also found that alcohol consumption among teenagers tends to peak at senior year in high school and remains high through age 25.
