Debra L. Duvall was appointed in December as the new superintendent of the 73,500-student Mesa public school system, the largest district in Arizona. Ms. Duvall, 55, had been an associate superintendent in the district since 1998. Her appointment followed the resignation of Dale Frederick in November.

Christie M. McElhinney

Christie M. McElhinney has left her job as the public relations director for the Denver-based Education Commission of the States, which aids education policymakers in all the U.S. states and territories. Ms. McElhinney, 41, stepped down last month to become the senior communications officer for the Colorado Trust, a private foundation in Denver that awards grants for health-care initiatives.

Eugene P. Sheehan

The University of Northern Colorado has announced that Eugene P. Sheehan is the new started his new job this month after serving as interim dean since August. Mr. Sheehan, 46, has been with the university since 1986 as a professor and department chairman in the psychology department. The university is in Greeley, Colo.

Rudolph F. Crew

Rudolph F. Crew, the former chancellor of the New York City schools, has been appointed to the board of directors of iMind Education Systems Inc. Based in Corte Madera, Calif., iMind develops and sells Internet-based education software programs.

Mr. Crew, 50, who was appointed to the iMind board in November, will continue in his current position as the executive director of the Institute for K-12 Leadership at the University of Washington in Seattle.
