Editor’s note: This page is no longer being updated. It contains old data and includes more than a dozen schools we could not confirm as being named for Confederate figures or were entered incorrectly. Some schools were not named for Confederate figures. Please visit this page for the latest data, which is updated regularly.

The Education Week Research Center found that, as of April 2018, 140 schools are named after Confederate soldiers.

The charts below provide key details about those schools, including where they are, when they were built or named, the racial makeup of the student body, and who they were named after.

Click the arrow at the top right of the chart to dig further into the data.

Clarification: This data visualization has been updated to reflect additional analysis of schools named for confederate leaders in Kentucky.
