Map: Where Are Confederate-Named Schools?
By Alex Harwin
Most schools with names tied to the Confederacy are in the South, were built or named after 1950, and have a student body that is majority non-white.
This map from the Education Week Research Center shows where these schools are located. Hover over the dots for more information, including when the school was built or named, and the percentage of non-white students at the school.
You can also toggle to a second map of schools that have changed their name since June 2015. (Note: This map only features schools that have decided on a new name.)
We will be continuing to update these maps as new information emerges and/or name changes happen.
If you have any information about schools named for Confederate figures, including recent name changes or schools we may have missed, please email the Education Week Library at [email protected]pe.org.
*Percentages reflect schools where dates could be found.

NOTE: Our map of renamed schools only features schools that have both voted to change the name and decided on a new name.
