Use of illegal drugs in cars may be a bigger problem for teenagers than the consumption of alcohol in cars, a survey suggests.
The report by Bowling Green, Ky.-based Pride Surveys, a research organization that collects information on issues that affect learning, found that 10 percent of 12th grade students said they have consumed alcohol in cars, while nearly 14 percent said they have used illegal drugs in cars. Results for 10th and 11th graders were similar. The survey did not ask if the students were driving.
However, middle school students were more likely to use alcohol than illegal drugs in a car, according to the nationwide survey of 100,000 students in grades 6-12.
