A story in the Sept. 28, 2005, issue of Education Week (“Federal Hurricane Aid for Schools Debated”) incorrectly listed the amount of aid that Mississippi state Superintendent of Education Hank M. Bounds requested in a Sept. 16 letter to Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings to help school districts affected by Hurricane Katrina. The correct amount is $1.8 billion, which includes an estimated $1.2 billion in expenditures that could be reimbursed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
