To help build schools’ capacity for teaching the language, the nation’s first Mandarin Chinese immersion school, which will celebrate its 25th anniversary next year, has begun offering professional-development programs and resources.
The Chinese American International School, a private K-8 school in the San Francisco Bay Area, is organizing workshops, school tours, and even a national conference to help educators start Mandarin programs.
A study-abroad program and after-school courses are also planned to enhance teachers’ skills and knowledge of Chinese language and culture.
The school was founded to help prepare students for an increasingly interconnected world.
School leaders will hold the national conference in San Francisco in March.
