Arizona’s top school official is now formally the target of a recall effort.
Opponents of schools chief Diane Douglas filed paperwork with the secretary of state’s office last week to begin the effort. They have 120 days to collect nearly 370,000 valid signatures to force a recall election.
The group’s petition cites an ongoing feud between Douglas and the state board of education and says she’s focused more on how to increase her power rather than on students and school performance.
