The nearly 40-year-old Educational Research Service will wind down operations in November, but two research groups—Hanover Research and Editorial Projects in Education, which publishes Education Week— will be picking up several of the Alexandria, Va. group’s longtime projects.
The Bethesda, Md.-based nonprofit Editorial Projects in Education has bought the rights to the research group’s flagship publication, the “National Survey of Salaries and Wages in Public Schools,” as well as its survey of district budgets.
“ERS is set to release its final (and the 38th) edition of its salary study, a testament to its long history in the field. Though the survey has been conducted for nearly four decades, there’s no doubt that research and analysis related to both compensation and budgets remains a ‘hot topic,’” said Virginia B. Edwards, EPE president and editor, in an email on the acquisition.
At the same time, the Washington-based nonprofit Hanover Research, has contracted to provide direct research for districts and state education agencies who previously received those services from ERS.
“The acquisition of ERS presents Hanover the opportunity to network and disseminate tailored research to a broader audience of districts throughout the [United States],” said Sid Phillips, the managing director of Hanover’s district administration practice, in a statement. “Integrating ERS’s subscribers into Hanover’s membership will enable Hanover to serve as a stronger research source for all educational organizations.”
