Six students at Westside Middle School in Memphis, Tenn., have been charged in connection with the beating death of a fellow student.
Tarus Williams, 15, died on Sept. 14 from injuries he received from a fight inside a school restroom that was part of a gang initiation, according to the office of Bill Gibbons, the Shelby County district attorney. The six students were charged with reckless homicide and will be prosecuted in juvenile court because of their ages and the nature of the crime they are alleged to have committed.
Mr. Gibbons visited every middle school in Memphis last spring to discuss the consequences of gang involvement.
