The Utah Education Association has kicked off a public campaign to pressure lawmakers to plow more money into a public school system that has the lowest per-pupil spending in the country.

The UEA launched its campaign late last month with a rally and signs that read “No Excuses! Invest in Public Schools.” The goal, said UEA President Pat Rusk, is to show lawmakers that the community believes education is an important investment.

“Our goal with this campaign is to do what we do best—educate, motivate, and empower,” he said. “But this time it won’t just be our students. It will be our families, our neighbors, our communities, and our lawmakers.” The UEA has created a “No Excuses” Web page at www.utea.org and is urging Utah residents to join the Grass Roots Education Action Team to hold policymakers accountable.
