America’s public schools have made drastic improvements in a number of categories since the 1980s, says a report released Aug. 3 by the Center on Education Policy.
“Do You Know the Latest Good News About American Education?” is posted by the Center on Education Policy.
The 44-page report by the Washington-based nonprofit organization notes marked increases in high school and college graduation rates, the emergence of more challenging courses for high school students, narrowing achievement gaps between some racial and ethnic student groups, declines in school crime, and more.
It also recommends ways the United States can improve its education system, including a renewed focus on reducing dropout rates and more support for students who are struggling academically, are learning English, or have disabilities. Upgrading the nation’s high schools is another important goal for policymakers, the report adds.
