The 31 programs that would be consolidated under the proposal, with their fiscal 1998 appropriations:


Goals 2000 state grants: $466 million
Goals 2000 parental assistance: $25 million
International education exchange: $5 million
School-to-work: $400 million*
Comprehensive school reform: $120 million
Eisenhower professional-development state grants: $335 million
Eisenhower professional-development national programs: $23.3 million
Technology literacy challenge fund: $425 million
Technology innovation grants: $106 million
Regional technology consortia: $10 million
Star schools: $34 million
Ready-to-learn Television: $7 million
Telecommunications demonstration project: $2 million
Magnet schools: $101 million
Women’s educational equity: $3 million
Title VI block grant: $350 million
Education for Native Hawaiians: $18 million
Alaska Native education equity : $8 million
Fund for the Improvement of Education: $108 million
Javits gifted and talented education: $6.5 million
21st Century Community Learning Centers: $40 million
Comprehensive regional assistance centers: $27 million
Eisenhower math and science regional consortia: $15 million
Education for homeless children: $28.8 million
Arts in education: $10.5 million
Civics education: $5.5 million
Close-Up Foundation: $1.5 million
National writing project: $5 million
Urban and rural education assistance: unfunded
Extended time for learning: unfunded
Innovative elementary school transition projects: unfunded

Total: $2.68 billion

*Includes funding from both the departments of Education and Labor.
