Members of the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers have ratified a three-year contract that provides for two three percent across-the-board salary raises over the life of the pact and does not increase employee contributions to health benefits.

The contract must be approved by the School Reform Commission, which will vote this week.

The contract contains a provision for a “renaissance schools” program for low-performing schools and specifies that teachers in such schools may be required to work an extra hour a day, two Saturdays per month, and summer school.

The last contract for the 17,000-member union expired Aug. 31, 2008, and has been extended five times.
