Bobbie H. D’Alessandro recently joined the Education Development Center as the principal investigator for a two-year, $3.7 million technical- assistance grant to the center from the Wallace-Readers Digest Funds.

Ms. D’Alessandro, 59, was previously the superintendent of the 7,200-student Cambridge, Mass., school system.

In her new role, she is directing the Boston-based center’s participation in the Wallace Funds’ Leadership for Educational Achievement in Districts, or LEAD, program, which is working to strengthen leadership in 12 urban school districts.

Jack J. Lynch has been appointed the president and chief executive officer of Pearson Education Technologies.

Mr. Lynch, 44, was previously the founding CEO and a board member of Bigchalk Inc., a provider of online educational content for schools. Bigchalk was recently acquired by the Ann Arbor, Mich.-based ProQuest Information and Learning company.

The Mesa, Ariz.-based Pearson Education Technologies develops K-12 online curriculum and assessment products.

Douglas L. Becker, the chairman and chief executive officer of Sylvan Learning Systems Inc., has been elected to the board of the International Youth Foundation.

Mr. Becker, 37, will serve a three-year term on the foundation’s board.

The International Youth Foundation is a Baltimore-based organization that works to support programs that improve the prospects of children around the world.

In March, Sylvan Learning announced that it would be selling its K-12 division to focus on providing postsecondary education programs.
