The American Council on Education last week released the 1995-96 “Minorities in Higher Education” report, which includes the following breakdown of increases in minority enrollment in colleges from 1993 to 1994:
Hispanics: 6.9 percent increase, largest gain of all ethnic groups. Since 1990, Hispanic college enrollment has increased 35 percent.
Asian-Americans: 6.8 percent increase. Since 1990, enrollment of Asian-American students in college has increased 35 percent.
American Indians/Alaskan natives: 5 percent increase. There has been a 24 percent increase since 1990 in the number of American Indians attending college.
African-Americans: 2.5 percent, smallest gain of all groups for fourth consecutive year. Since 1990, the number of blacks attending college has increased 16 percent.
