Poland, in particular, needs as many as 10,000 teachers of English to meet the demands created by increased contact with the West, Corps officials report. Teachers accepted for the twoyear assignment--which also includes teaching English to secondary students--will be provided with housing, a living allowance, transportation and medical costs, and a $200-a-month stipend paid in lump sum upon completion of service. No knowledge of a foreign language is necessary, but applicants should be experienced in teaching English as a second language.

Hall Of Fame

A former school superintendent, Robert Rubenow of the Rich Township High Schools in Park Forest, Ill., has been hired to direct efforts to establish a national “hall of fame’’ for teachers at Emporia (Kan.) State University. He will organize a fundraising drive to build the facility.

Why Emporia State? The school has its roots in teacher education, and its central location should make it easy for visitors to find, says Dave Eldridge, secretary-treasurer of the National Hall of Fame Foundation. “At the heart of democracy is the education system,’' he says, “and at the heart of America will be the Teachers Hall of Fame.’'
