The 2006 “Report Card on the Ethics of American Youth” is available from the Josephson Institute of Ethics.

A large percentage of high school students continue to have habits of dishonesty, suggests a survey from the Joseph and Edna Josephson Institute of Ethics.

According to the national survey of 36,000 high school students, 60 percent admitted having cheated on a school test in the past year, and 35 percent said they had done so two or more times. Sixty-two percent admitted they had lied to a teacher about something significant in the past year. One-third of all respondents said they had used the Internet to plagiarize an assignment, according to the biennial survey, which the Los Angeles-based institute has conducted since 1992. This year’s results were basically the same as those from the 2004 survey.
