Eleven communities that are trying to address young people’s needs through “community schools” are profiled in a report from the Washington-based Coalition for Community Schools.
“Growing Community Schools: The Role of Cross-Boundary Leadership” is posted by the Coalition for Community Schools.
The report defines such schools as both places and a set of partnerships between schools and other community resources. They are distinguished by an integrated focus on academics and on family and social supports, and are open to everyone, including at night and on weekends.
The document profiles efforts in Chicago; Lincoln, Neb.; Multnomah County, Ore.; and other communities.
