Following are application deadlines for awards, honors, and contests available to teachers. Asterisks (*) denote new entries.

*November 1 IMPROVING EDUCATION

The University of Louisville seeks applications for the Grawemeyer Award in Education. Created to support ideas for improving education, the $200,000 prize is paid in five annual installments of $40,000. Applicants must be nominated by colleagues and may submit books, technology projects, program initiatives, or other proposals. The Gleitsman Foundation recognizes teachers who have worked to improve K-12 public education. Honorees selected to receive the 2004 Citizen Activist Award will share $100,000 and will each receive a sculpture designed by Maya Lin, creator of the Vietnam War Memorial, at a ceremony in the spring at the Center for Public Leadership at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government.
