A. Harry Passow, one of the nation’s leading experts on urban education and gifted education, died March 28 of a stroke. He was 75.
Mr. Passow joined the faculty of Teachers College, Columbia University, in 1952 and retired in 1991. He wrote numerous books and articles on education.
In 1954, Mr. Passow was named the director of the Talented Youth Project, one of the first projects to study gifted children, particularly those in urban schools.
In 1966, Mr. Passow led a study of the District of Columbia schools. A year later, the team issued a report called “Toward Creating a Model Urban School System,” commonly known as the Passow Report.
