The Kentucky state board of education has named three finalists to be the state’s next commissioner of education.
The candidates are Mitchell D. Chester, the senior associate state superintendent in Ohio; Barbara F. Erwin, the superintendent of the 13,800-student St. Charles Community Unit District in St. Charles, Ill.; and Richard La Pointe, the deputy assistant secretary for vocational and adult education at the U.S. Department of Education.
The Kentucky state board plans to meet in executive session to discuss the vacancy this week.
