Of the more than 500 teenagers surveyed for the Washington-based nonprofit organization Fight Crime: Invest in Kids, 36 percent reported that mean, threatening, or embarrassing things had been said about them or to them through instant messages, e-mail, social-networking sites, chat rooms, or text messages. Of those teenagers, 59 percent said that the harassment had to do with dating or relationships, and 38 percent said that they had been harassed about their physical appearance.
