Texas Proposal Would Cut Textbook Budget

The proposed cuts include eliminating about $50 million that would have paid for textbooks and related materials to reflect the state’s recently revised standards for English/language arts and science.

Several proposed textbook purchases in recent years have been postponed because of budget problems.

In its latest proposal, which will be presented to the legislature, the agency identified $262 million in total K-12 cuts over two years.
