Idaho lawmakers were upset to learn that nearly $17 million dedicated to giving teachers in leadership positions and assistants bonuses hasn’t been distributed.
The teacher bonuses, or leadership premiums, were established last year as incentives for teachers who take on additional responsibility in the classroom or pursue higher degrees. The measure was passed in an effort to keep teachers in Idaho by raising salaries and creating new financial incentives.
Employees are eligible to receive a minimum of $850 for taking on extra responsibilities, but employees in 35 districts received less than the minimum amount.
