Born: Sept. 26, 1943, in Caibarien, Cuba.

Education: Miami-Dade Community College, A.A., 1967; Florida Atlantic University, B.A., 1969; University of Northern Colorado, M.A., 1974.

Career: Deputy superintendent for district office operations, 1996; associate superintendent of community services and career preparation, 1991-96; assistant superintendent of vocational, adult, career, and community education, 1989-91; assistant superintendent of students-at-risk project, 1987-91; principal, Hammocks Junior High, 1985-87; supervisor of dropout prevention, 1984-85; principal, Miami Springs Adult Center, 1979-84; assistant principal, Miami Springs Adult Center, 1978-79; community school director/coordinator, Sylvania Heights Elementary School, 1974-77; community school director, L.C. Evans Elementary School, 1973-74; teacher, Holmes Elementary School, 1970-72; teacher, Little River Elementary School, 1969-70. All positions in the Dade County system.
