Randy McPherson, a counselor at Trezevant Career and Technology Center in Memphis, Tenn., was honored last week as the 2011 School Counselor of the Year by the American School Counselor Association. Mr. McPherson came to counseling as a second career 15 years ago, after working in college administration and as an executive recruiter. At Trezevant, he started an alternative program for students who were expelled, and helped transform career and technology training.
