Richard Carranza, the superintendent of the San Francisco school system, has been tapped to lead the Houston district.
The appointment is expected to be finalized after a 21-day waiting period required by Texas law.
Carranza has led San Francisco Unified since 2012. He was among Education Week‘s 2015 class of Leaders to Learn From for his work with English-language learners.
