Gene R. Carter will retire June 30, after 22 years as the executive director and CEO of the Alexandria, Va.-based ASCD.
Before joining the organization then known as the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, Mr. Carter had been the superintendent of schools in Norfolk, Va., for nine years. During that time, he was selected as the first National Superintendent of the Year by the American Association of School Administrators. He also worked as a teacher and a university professor.
Mr. Carter, 75, will become the ASCD’s emeritus executive director.
