States in the Re:Learning Project

Below is a status report on the states participating in Re:Learning.

Arkansas. Coordinator: Gene Parker Jr., (501) 682-4243. Approximately 10 schools are either exploring or implementing coalition principles.

Delaware. Coordinator: Joe Fitzpatrick, (302) 577-2998. The effort began with four pilot schools in 1988-89; six more were added in 1989-90. The state expects a total of 14 schools to be in either the exploration or implementation phase for 1990-91.

Illinois. Coordinator: Warren Chapman, (312) 814-3606. Ten schools are members of the Illinois Alliance of Essential Schools. Up to 10 Chicago high schools are expected to join the initiative this year.

New Mexico. Coordinator: Pedro Atencio, (505) 982-2631. Since 1988, 14 schools have been trying to implement coalition principles. Officials expect another 37 schools, including two higher-education institutions, to join the initiative this year.

Pennsylvania. Coordinator: Jean DeSabitino, (717) 772-3817. In 1988-89, approximately eight schools in eight districts were engaged in a planning year. In 1989-90, that number expanded to 14. This year, the state expects to include approximately 25 districts in the initiative.

Rhode Island. Coordinator: Chris O’Neil (401-277-2031). Seven schools are part of the effort. The group includes Hope Essential School in Providence, which joined the coalition in 1984.
