“The Intended Mathematics Curriculum as Represented in State-Level Curriculum Standards: Con-sensus or Confusion” is available from the Center for the Study of Mathematics Curriculum.
States have such inconsistent standards for mathematics that adding multidigit numbers might be an expectation in kindergarten in one state, while in another state that skill might not be taught until 3rd grade, a report says.
Among other recommendations, the report—produced by the Center for the Study of Mathematics Curriculum at the University of Missouri-Columbia—suggests that states work together to reach agreement on important math learning goals for each grade.
