Clint Bolick will serve as the president and general counsel of two new national organizations, School Choice Alliance and School Choice Advocates. He is scheduled to begin his new positions in April.
Mr. Bolick, 46, who is currently a vice president and the national director of state chapters for the Washington-based Institute for Justice, will remain with the institute as its counsel for strategic litigation. The institute is a legal-advocacy group that has represented parents in school choice cases nationwide, including the Cleveland voucher case, Zelman v. Simmons- Harris, which led to the U.S. Supreme Court’s June 2002 decision upholding religious school vouchers.
The two school choice organizations, which will be based in Phoenix, where Mr. Bolick already resides, are a consolidation of three school choice advocacy groups—the American Education Reform Council, the American Education Reform Foundation, and Children First America.
School Choice Alliance will focus its efforts on starting a variety of school choice programs across the country. School Choice Advocates will serve as a lobbying organization for school choice.
Elfreda W. Massie has announced that she will resign in April as the interim superintendent of the District of Columbia public school system.
Ms. Massie, 53, who formerly served as the chief of staff for the 65,000- student district, took over the $175,000-a-year position in November when Superintendent Paul L. Vance resigned, citing the school system’s uncertain governance issues as his reason for leaving.
Earlier this year, Ms. Massie made it clear that she would not be interested in the permanent job as superintendent because of differences between Mayor Anthony A. Williams and the District of Columbia Council over control of the schools.
