Barbara E. Eggers

The Phillips Exeter Academy has named Barbara E. Eggers its new dean of faculty. Ms. Eggers, 54, teaches American and Asian history at the 1,000-student private school in Exeter, N.H., and has chaired the history department since 1995.


The Ketchikan Gateway Borough school district in Ketchikan, Alaska, has tapped Harry E. Martin to serve as its next superintendent. The district serves 2,600 students. Mr. Martin, 48, currently is the associate superintendent of the 2,100-student Bering Strait district.


Jeanie Weathersby

Jeanie Weathersby has been selected as the national program director of the National Faculty, an Atlanta-based nonprofit organization that works to improve the teaching of core subjects in public schools through partnerships between K-12 teachers and college and university faculty members. Ms. Weathersby, 56, is a former director of the Georgia Council for School Performance in the applied-research center at Georgia State University in Atlanta.


Judith Stiegler has been elected the president of the National Association of State Boards of Education. Ms. Stiegler is a member of the Oregon board of education and the Governor’s Readiness to Learn Task Force.

The national association, which includes 41 state school boards, also elected Corine Hadley as its vice president. Ms. Hadley is the president of the Iowa board of education.


Neil J. Anderson

Neil J. Anderson is the new president-elect of Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages. Mr. Anderson will serve on TESOL’s board of directors this year. Next January, he will become the president of the 18,000-member association. Mr. Anderson, 44, is an associate professor of linguistics at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
