To the Editor:
Regarding the Louisiana Recovery Authority’s plan to dispense $10 million in public funds to private (including faith-based) schools damaged by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita (“La. Agency OKs Storm Aid for Private Schools,” Jan. 24, 2007):
Louisiana should give its highest priority to the recovery area’s woefully inadequate and neglected public schools, the ones that serve the neediest kids. Under the Louisiana Constitution, only public schools are entitled to tax aid.
