Invoking the ‘Wisdom’ Offered in Commentaries

To the Editor:

I just finished reading the comments of Ronald A. Wolk, the founding editor of Education Week, from the transcript of your Sept. 12, 2007, online chat on issues raised in your newspaper’s Commentary section, and I loved the reminder of the excellence that is Education Week. Your work is as invaluable as that of The New Yorker or National Public Radio.

This raises a “thought experiment”: What if we all took a break from the No Child Left Behind debate and read, and reread, Mr. Wolk’s remarks? Periodically, I’ll be talking with a noneducator and pick up at random a handful of Commentaries. Invariably, they contain enough wisdom to get the person’s attention and change the quality of the conversation.
