Regarding “NCLB Seen a Damper on Bilingual Programs” (May 9, 2007):
Isn’t it time to have real bilingual programs for U.S. schools? Every child should be learning at least one language other than English. In Germany, when I lived there, students had to learn two languages other than their native German in order to graduate from high school.
Just think of the many people in the United States who are native speakers of other languages. Couldn’t they be helping monolingual Americans?
