Here’s some “news you can use:" The National Association of Secondary School Principals and the College Board’s Advocacy & Policy Center have launched a free online toolkit for principals and school leaders that is focused on “equity, personalization, smart data, collaboration and continuous improvement.”
Called Leading Success, the toolkit includes case studies and videos on the following topics:
- Developing leadership skills for change,
- Using data to assess and inform school change,
- Creating a college-going culture,
- Building an inclusive school culture, and
- Student voices in the hallways
The organizations hosted a webinar introducing Leading Success this afternoon. You should be able to access a recorded copy of that webinar here within the next few days. It features NASSP’s deputy executive director for programs and services, Dick Flanary; its director of diversity, equity, and urban initiatives, Judith Richardson; Matt Safrite, a principal in Fayetteville, Ark.; Cynthia Schneider, a principal in New York City; and Fiona Yung, the associate director of the Advocacy & Policy Center at the College Board.
The webinar steps through the various components of the Leading Success toolkit, but also features conversations with the two principals about the strategies they’ve used and the challenges they’ve faced in building successful school cultures.
The principals come from two of the eleven schools profiled on the site in the modules and videos. The schools were selected for creating “positive, student-centered school cultures that value equity, collaboration and personalized learning.”
