Paul Hubbert, a two-time candidate for governor of Alabama who transformed an association of school teachers into one of that state’s most potent political forces, died Oct. 14. He was 78.
A spokeswoman for the Alabama Education Association said he was hospitalized Oct. 6 for injuries suffered in a fall, and his condition worsened.
Mr. Hubbert led the AEA from 1969 until his retirement in 2011.
