Pennsylvania Gov. Edward G. Rendell has nominated Gerald L. Zahorchak to become Pennsylvania’s next secretary of education. Mr. Zahorchak has been the acting secretary for two months, replacing Francis V. Barnes, who returned to his post as the superintendent of the Palisades school system. Mr. Zahorchak, whose nomination must be confirmed by the state Senate, previously served as the state’s deputy secretary for elementary and secondary education.
