Sister Ann Christine Heintz, a Roman Catholic nun who founded a student-operated newspaper organization and wire service geared to high-school students, is dead at 58.
As a high-school journalism teacher in Chicago, Sister Heintz in 1976 helped start Youth Communication. The organization began publishing New Expression, a student-run paper serving high-school students in the Chicago area.
The paper, which today has a circulation of about 80,000, covers such issues as school curricula, drug abuse, and teenage pregnancy.
The organization, which also publishes student-run papers in seven other cities, involves some 500 students in various capacities, according to Craig Trygstad, executive director of the group’s national center in Washington.
In 1982, the organization began the Youth News Service, a Washington-based wire service for student papers.
